Lead The Way

By the Three Leaf Clover

Kartini, Rukmini, Kardinah

KARTINI: (to sisters) Our grandfather was a pioneer when half a century ago, he gave both his sons and daughters a European education. So we have no right to be passive, to be nothing. Noblesse oblige, excelsior!

KARDINAH: First, we need to request the government for a scholarship!

RUKMINI: If we could get Father’s consent we would be richer than Queen Wilhelmina.

KARTINI

THIS IS THE PLACE

WHERE WE WERE BORN AND RAISED

CARED BY MY MOTHER

SHE TAUGHT ME RESPONSIBILITY

RUKMINI

WE WORK, WE NURTURE AND PRAY

WE DO THE THINGS WE MUST DO

KARTINI, RUKMINI, KARDINAH

I FEEL IT CALLING TO ME

  • This song is the anthem of freedom. If European Fantasy was the seed of the fire of freedom, Lead The Way IS the blazing fire. Kartini and her sisters are singing together in the village, encouraging the Javanese women to dream outside of their island.

  • This track was co-produced by Shamshawan Scott. We tried to evoke the feelings of freedom with the passionate strings, bongos and playful bass. This song was originally just an instrumental track that Sham and I was messing around with, but I came back to it and wrote a verse and chorus.

    • I'd like to hear this with the bongos once again replaced with a kendhang.

    • I'm curious to see the villager extras in this scene to be the percussionists.
